Hilary Meyer

Background

I have 30 years’ experience as an Educational Professional, having worked both as teacher and Headteacher. Having taken early retirement, I now work as a professional educational consultant and coach. I currently work with universities in producing academic materials for their ITT (initial teacher training) programmes, speak at conferences and I work with schools as a consultant on recruitment, staff development and resource-management. I also coach individuals in a variety of settings, including career progression, career change, senior leadership and headship, and career-coaching post-redundancy in all other areas.

Why I coach

During my career, I particularly enjoyed coaching and mentoring because I have a fundamental belief in the ability we all have to develop and progress. Essentially, I recognise that the power for positive change lies within the individual, and I particularly think that coaching can offer that developmental support. This is because of the nature of coaching which is supportive and yet sustainable, as it works to nurture the power of the client.

Qualifications

I have an MA in coaching and Mentoring from Brookes University and I am a member of the Association for Coaching. I also have a degree in Music as well as an LRAM (Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music), a Certificate in Education and the National Professional Qualification for Headship.

Hilary’s empathetic listening and insightful questions put me at ease. I became increasingly self-aware and able to set myself realistic targets with small practical steps. It has been so motivating to have a coach sensitive to my needs but also observant and with a sense of humour.

Headteacher

I was really scared of redundancy and have to admit that I could not see any positives at all. Hilary’s willingness to connect with me, created a positive environment where I was able to acknowledge and then deal with my internal clutter, leading to a more satisfying life that uses my skills and talents.

Senior Manager

I had taken on a demanding role and was suffering from imposter syndrome. Hilary listened with compassion and encouraged me whilst also redirecting my focus when I impeded my own progress. This was incredibly useful and It helped me grow into the role, and believe in myself

Being stuck in a rut with my career was something I hadn’t acknowledged. I needed to work out which direction to go in as I had become dissatisfied. Hilary’s sessions helped me open up so many possibilities and I am now on the path I have actively chosen.
